Everyday Magic

Co-Curated by Rebecca Goyette and Jenny Mushkin Goldman

Everyday Magic explored the intersection of contemporary art and mystical practice, bringing together artists whose work is rooted in ritual, esoteric knowledge, and the transformative potential of the sacred. Co-curated by Rebecca Goyette and Jenny Mushkin Goldman, the exhibition examined how ritual, intention, and altered states of consciousness are employed by artists and occult practitioners alike as tools for personal evolution and collective healing.

Spanning sculpture, installation, painting, performance, and participatory practices, the works on view illuminated a spectrum of gnostic and magical traditions—ranging from tarot and altar-making to psychick performance and folkloric homage. Themes of ancestral memory, divine femininity, material transformation, and inner vision were woven throughout the show, positioning the studio as a contemporary sacred space where art becomes a vessel for spiritual inquiry and empowerment.

The exhibition was activated by a series of public programs titled Magic Hours, featuring conversations and performances by exhibiting artists and guest scholars. Highlights included:

  • “Offerings to God Herself” with Courtney Alexander, creator of Dust to Onyx: A Melanated Tarot, who explored the role of divination and Black mysticism in self-liberation.

  • “Healing Persephone’s Wounds” with Elizabeth Insogna, artist and author of Beautiful Necessity: The Art and Meaning of Women’s Altars, focused on ritual healing and the power of devotional spaces.

  • “Intuitives and Intention Setters”, a multi-voice evening with presentations by Tamara Kostianovsky, Clarina Bezzola, Alexis Karl, and art writer Jane Ursula Harris, who offered readings from Genesis Breyer P-Orridge’s Psychick Bible, honoring legacy, embodiment, and transmutation.

Through this curatorial lens, Everyday Magic positioned contemporary art not only as an aesthetic practice but also as a portal—inviting viewers into a world where imagination meets intention, and creativity becomes a force for spiritual and social transformation.
